FOUR STUDENTS EXPELLED FOR DRUG-RELATED PROBLEMS - Kirby Hired As New Calhoun-Middle-High School Principal

Four Calhoun Middle-High School students were expelled during a special meeting last Thursday of the Calhoun Board of Education.

All four were expelled related to drug incidents.

One was expelled for one calendar year, a second for 45 calendar days, a third until the end of the first semester and a fourth until the end of the school year. All will be required to undergo monthly drug testing while they are suspended.

The school board hired teacher Karen Kirby as Assistant Principal at Calhoun Middle-High School.

Also hired, Lisa Walker, science teacher (CM-HS); Adam O'Harrow, health/physical education teacher (CM-HS); Marshall Bever, bus operator #18; Melissa Jones and Amber Ganoe, tutor coordinators (CM-HS): Susan Pitts, substitute teacher.

Greg Cartwright explained a GEAR-UP grant received by the school system. (See earlier Herald story) The board approved resignations and retirements: Trina Bell, tutor coordinator; Jeff Carter, substitute custodian and William Mace bus operator.

Student transfers for Nasha'La Holcomb and Jakab Holcomb to Gilmer County.

Approved volunteer agreements for Carolyn Conley (CM-HS) and Chasidy Rush (Pleasant Hill).

The board approved finances.
