With the Three Freshmigos running all alone because of illnesses and
injuries Calhoun County did not have a team score in the Cedar Creek Cross Country
Invitational Tuesday afternoon.
With state powers Doddridge and Ritchie controlling things and the Red
Devils minus two starters, Grace Keaffaber (injury) and Teresa Little
(illness) the best Calhoun could hope for was strong individual performances
from its runners.
Freshman Anna Sampson led the way for Calhoun with a time of 24:52, which
was good enough for 18th place overall.
She was followed by fellow freshman Maria Kisner with a 25:39, which was
good enough for 23rd place. Elizabeth Duskey, the third of the Three
Freshmigos, finished 32nd with a time of 27:20.
On the boys side junior David Lee led the way for Calhoun with a time of
21:31, taking 25th place. Dustin Simmons was next for the Red Devils in 28th
place.
In the middle school meet Calhoun had strong performances from Steven
Keaffaber, who had a time of 12:21, which was good enough for seventh place.
In the girls meet Emily Brady posted a time of 14:18 for an 11th place
finish.
Calhoun is scheduled to return to action next Tuesday at Ritchie County
before playing host to a home meet on Sept. 29.
