On behalf of the caring citizens who are its donors, the Board of Governors of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and the Regional Affiliates of Doddridge, Jackson, Mason, Ritchie counties and the Little Kanawha Area (Wirt and Calhoun counties) today announced that it has committed to making a grant of $10,000 to support the Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross organization's Hurricane Katrina-related relief efforts.
Judy Sjostedt, Foundation Executive Director, said, "We know that our supporters would want the organization to do something significant in response to this great need, as well as to respond in a way that was aligned with our mission of serving the citizens of our local community."
"We are making this donation to our local chapter of the American Red Cross to support their good work, requesting that they use it first in response to any local needs with which they are associated as they seek to help survivors recover from the Hurricane, then next toward any WV state-level efforts and finally, should funds remain, toward their national effort," said Sjostedt.
Miss Sjostedt said, "We believed that it was best to give our local American Red Cross leaders the discretion to apportion this grant to meet the needs of their work as they saw fit, given that their organization is a "first responder" to this great need. We applaud the great work that they are doing in our community and especially as they help in meeting the needs of those whose lives have been so permanently affected by this natural disaster."
