After a second try, employees of Pechiney Rolled Products in Ravenswood accept a new contract.
Members of the United Steelworkers Local voted yesterday to approve the contract proposal by a 470-to-305 margin.
The union had submitted a 48-hour intent to strike notice.
Governor Joe Manchin stepped in and encouraged management at the aluminum plant to keep the offer on the table a little longer and asked the union to hold a second vote.
Local 56-68 spokesman Eli Morris has said health care and wages were points of contention.
Pechiney is Jackson County's largest employer, with about 1,100 workers. The plant is owned by Montreal-based Alcan.
