Charles Edward Mount, 80, of Spencer, died Wednesday, August 31, 2005, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer, after an extended illness.
He was born February 19, 1925 in Spencer, the son of the late Hugh and Dena Snider Mount. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, June Foster Mount.
Charles was a retired 37 year employee of Casto & Harris, Inc., Spencer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spencer and attended the Peniel United Methodist Church. Also, he was a 50 year member of the Moriah Lodge No. 38 A.F. & A.M., Spencer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Irvin F. Conley V.F.W. Post 5783 and the American Legion Post 21, Spencer.
At the age of 17, he began singing bass in gospel quartets and sang with numerous quartets throughout his lifetime.
Survivors include his second wife, Wavie F. Mount of Reedy; daughter, Michele Mount of Clarksburg; sons and daughters-in-law, David and JoAnn Mount of Winston-Salem, NC and Charles E. "Edd" and Debbie Mount, II of Bridgeport; step daughter and son-in-law, Pam and George Facemyer of Reedy; "sisters," Betty F. Atkinson of Spencer, Nancy Bennett and her husband, Wayne, of Eleanor; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, September 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Kenneth S. Peters officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Spencer. Military graveside rites will be accorded by members of the American Legion Post 21 and V.F.W. Post 5783.
