The right fork of Daniels Run is still closed.
The rural road has been closed for a little less than two weeks, since a 14 x 80 foot modular home failed to make a sharp turn and slipped over the hill.
Chavis Transport Company of Moncks Corner, SC abandoned the home after initial efforts to get it back on the road failed.
Glen Hanlin, Calhoun County road supervisor, says he is waiting word from a district engineer regarding what the Department of Highways can do to remove the home and open the right fork of Daniels Run to traffic.
"This has been a real heartache for our family," said Diana Satterfield, whose son and daughter-in-law were having the dwelling moved from South Carolina, relocating it to a farm on Daniel's Run.
Chavis Transport left the scene of the accident, leaving the Satterfields to find a solution.
Chavis will not answer phone calls, nor will they respond to the WV State Insurance Commissioner.
Ms. Satterfield said "You would not believe the many different agencies we've called and the red tape we have endured over the past several days," although the unit was insured.
Even though it is not the legal responsibility of the Satterfields, they continue to work through state agencies in both WV and NC to get the home, which they say is a total loss, out of the highway.
The accident happened in a sharp turn a short distance from State Route 16 at Millstone Hill.
"We are so grateful to our neighbors for being patient," said Satterfield. "Unfortunately, it has become our responsibility and we have been working on it hour-by-hour."
The Satterfield's may not be the only customers having problems with Chavis.
Rip-Off Report.Com reports a customer in Findlay, Ohio saying "Chavis failed to finish their contract, leaving me to hire new contractors at a price to finish their work. They left me high and dry and I want a refund."
"In the process of moving my manufactured home from Novi, Michigan to Findlay, Ohio these movers promised delivery within specified date and failed to do so, delivered two weeks late."
"Which made me have unexpected hotel charges for extra time waiting for the delivery of my home. Upon delivery...the home was just put on it's blocks without finishing the job."
"The house is un-level, they didn't tie-down the house as required by law, the water and drainage system was not re-installed. The skirt was not put back on and the vents for the furnace and water heater were not re-attached."
"They would not return my calls and later would refuse to answer any of my calls when I tried to contact them to try and resolve the issues. They are totally unreliable and I would not trust them with anything."
