The Roane County Parks and Recreation Commission will be hosting the 2005 Labor Day Bass Tournament at Charles Fork Lake awarding a cash prize of $150 and a plaque to the single largest catch and Calhoun County residents are being sought for the event.
Labor Day falls on September 5th this year. The tournament runs from 6 a.m. - noon. Check-in at the lake will be from 5 a.m.- 5:50 a.m. Charles Fork Lake is located on Rt. 36 just south of Spencer.
"It's been about 8 or 9 years since Roane County's had a bass tournament locally, and the timing is right for us to host the event," says Toby Wagoner member of the Commission.
"Our organization will become more active and more visible creating local events that everyone can enjoy. This is certainly an affordable bass tournament with a nice prize for anyone that loves to fish."
The tournament winner will be determined on who has the single largest catch not on combined weight as the larger tournament does. Each angler can weigh two bass, keeping the larger weight.
This gives everyone an equal chance at winning the event. Bank fishing and boat fishing are both welcome. The event is open to licensed anglers ages 14 and up. Bass may be either small or large mouth and must be weighed in alive to score.
Entry fee is just $15 in advance or $25 at the lake. Roane County Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Family Health Care, First National Bank, WVRC Radio and City of Spencer to make the event a reality.
"We need all anglers from our entire region, both men and women, to come out and take advantage of this opportunity for something fun to do on Labor Day this year.
We'd love to have as many anglers from Calhoun County and elsewhere to participate." Wagoner adds, "If the event goes well, we may have an evening catfish tournament in the near future."
