DR. RIZZO NOT AT ARNOLDSBURG SCHOOL TODAY

Arnoldsburg School will not have its principal present this morning as school opens in Calhoun.

Dr. Gene Rizzo has been assigned to the county's central office, likely because of safety and security reasons.

With a protest group announcing they intended to erect pickets today, Superintendent Ron Blankenship felt the situation should be defused.

Blankenship told the Herald, "Dr. Rizzo will be working at the school board office until I can get to the bottom of the issue."

The State Police and the Calhoun Sheriff's Department were reportedly prepared to be on site this morning, but that may have been canceled since the educator will not be present.

Parents are alleging Rizzo has anger problems, in addition they are concerned about the process in which the educator was hired. Several have said they feel that a local person should have filled the opening.

A group of parents were planning on traveling to Charleston yesterday to protest the hiring of the principal.

Lee Evan, who has been a leader opposed to Rizzo's hiring, has not responded to telephone calls regarding recent meetings which have been declared private.
