COURTHOUSE GETTING SECURITY UPGRADES

The Calhoun Commission passed a resolution supporting the efforts of the Blue-Gray Highway group, which is working on upgrading US 33 from Ripley to I-79 at Thursday's meeting.

The sale of the local TV cable company by Time-Warner was approved.

Electrical repairs to Calhoun's EMS building were approved.

A report was heard by the Gilmer Watershed Coalition regarding the purchase of a water gage which would be part of an early flood warning system along the Little Kanawha River.

The commission voted to join the National Association of Counties, which provides several benefits to members.

County Clerk Richard Kirby said work will begin soon on replacing the heating and cooling system in the old jail building, the commission had approved a low bid to City Mechanical.

The courthouse will get some security upgrades, new locks on outside doors and improvements to the TV security system. The commission received a grant for $12,000.

Board president Larry McCallister announced he had been re-elected to the board of the WV County Commissioners Association.

The next commission meeting is September 12.
