Velma Jean Hicks, 74, of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, passed away August 4, 2005 at the home of her daughter, Karen Sue Carter at Orma.
Born at Widen, Clay County, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Lydia Alice Holcomb Carter. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, Leo Dayton Hicks ; 2 daughters, Karen Sue Carter of Orma and Glenda Jean Mason of Kannapolis, North Carolina; 4 brothers, Gene Carter of Nicut, Russell Carter of Millstone, Dale Carter of Ohio and Mike Carter of Chloe; 5 sisters, Opal Kirchburg of Glenville, Sharon Jarvis of Chloe, Judy Dobbins of Alabama, Nina Wilfong of Lynn and Louise Ice of Spencer; a first cousin, Elsie Helmick Jarvis of Florida; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 9 step-children and 19 step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Carter Westfall and step-mother Losie Carter.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 6 at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Rev. Roger Carter will officiate. Interment will be in the Bailey Cemetery at Beech.
