HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED BY NWS

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHARLESTON HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING.

HIGH TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON ARE EXPECTED TO PEAK IN THE 95 TO 100 DEGREE RANGE,

THESE TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE 70S WILL RESULT IN HEAT INDEX VALUES BETWEEN 100 AND 110 DEGREES.

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE.

CHILDREN, THE ELDERLY AND PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC AILMENTS ARE USUALLY THE FIRST TO SUFFER FROM THE HEAT. HEAT EXHAUSTION, CRAMPS, OR IN EXTREME CASES HEAT STROKE CAN RESULT FROM PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THESE CONDITIONS.

FRIENDS, RELATIVES, OR NEIGHBORS SHOULD CHECK ON PEOPLE WHO MAY BE AT RISK. SPEND THE AFTERNOON IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED BUILDING IF POSSIBLE...AND BE SURE TO DRINK PLENTY OF WATER IF YOU SPEND TIME OUTSIDE IN THESE CONDITIONS.
