Ernest J. Meadows, 85, of Parkersburg passed away July 16, 2005, at the Ft. Sanders Hospital in Sevierville, Tenn., following a sudden illness.
He was born in Calhoun County, W.Va., the son of the late Jerry and Marvilla Isenhart Meadows. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and had retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers where he had worked as a maintenance supervisor.
He was a longtime member of the Seventh Street E.U.B. Church and had also attended the North Parkersburg Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church in Williamstown. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and enjoyed spending time with his family and playing cards.
He is survived by his children, Jerry L. Meadows of Huntington, W.Va., David A. Meadows and his wife, Lois, of Parkersburg and Pamela Jane Oxley and her husband, Tom, of Poca, W.Va.; his brother, Robert Meadows and his wife, Mary, of Washington, W.Va.; his sister, Ruby Fleak and her husband, Harold, of Washington; his grandchildren, Lynecia Groff and her husband, Toby, of Annapolis, Md., Eric Justin Meadows of Deep Creek, Md., Jennifer Davis Jones and her husband, Tim, of Cross Lanes, W.Va., and K.C. Davis and his wife, Kimberly, of St. Albans, W.Va.; and his great-grandchildren, Chelsea R. Jones of Cross Lanes and Baylin and Mia Groff of Annapolis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Romine Meadows in 1990; two brothers, Leo and Ron Meadows; and one sister, Mavoureen Harrison.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with Pastor Norman Butler and Pastor Jim Mike Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
