NEW ANTI-METH LAW STARTS FRIDAY - Sign-Up For Cold Medicines Required

(07/06/2005)
Starting Friday if you purchase cold medicines in WV stores, you will have to use an ID and sign a log book.

The measure was passed by the legislature to try and slow-down the pandemic production of meth in WV.

West Virginia's law applies to non-liquid medicines that use pseudoephedrine as their single active ingredient. That could amount to 18 products that pharmacies will have to move from store shelves.

It will be legal for customers to purchase only up to three packages — or up to 9 grams — of the medicines each month without a prescription.

Unfortunately, the cost of the over-the-counter medications will likely go up.
