AUTHORITIES RESPOND TO SUICIDE AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

The long holiday weekend in Calhoun has ended with one suicide and the threat of another suicide.

Authorities responded to a rural residence near Arnoldsburg shortly after 2 p.m. today where a 60s+ year-old-man reportedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sgt. Darren Campbell and Sheriff Carl Ballengee responded to the incident, with Calhoun EMS and the Arnoldsburg Fire Department.

Calhoun coroner Ed Messenger went to the scene, because the man's death was "unattended."

In an earlier incident Sunday evening, a woman described in her 60s was threatening to jump off the Bernard Pious Bell bridge.

Members of the Grantsville VFD, with 911 dispatcher and Arnoldsburg Fire Chief Joe Tanner responded to the scene, finding the woman at the end of the bridge.

Authorities spent several minutes assisting the woman.

Calhoun sheriff Carl Ballengee and Trooper 1st Class Jeff Hunt also responded to the scene.

The woman was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, where she initiated treatment.
