Grantsville firemen were called to a fire at 10 a.m. behind the old Calhoun High School, where residents were attempting to burn the debris from an old house that had been torn down.
Grantsville Police Chief Ron Gordon called the fire department regarding the illegal burn, because several other structures were nearby.
Gordon said the fire was hot enough to melt the underpinning of a trailer.
He said a citation will be issued over the matter. "It is illegal to burn such structures in town," at will.
Firemen quickly brought the blaze under control.
An officer with the EPA, who was in Grantsville this morning, issued a ticket.
