| A Gilmer county resident died after being struck by a car on Route 5, west of the Grantsville town limits Tuesday night.
The woman's name is reportedly Lulu Helmick, about 30, of the Normantown area.
Helmick reportedly died of multiple trauma shortly after she was struck by the car.
Cpl. Doug Starcher told state media the victim walked out in front of the
vehicle in an apparent suicide.
Friends of the woman said she had recently been staying at a Grantsville residence.
An eyewitness at scene said the driver of the car "tried really hard" to avoid striking the woman.
Calhoun EMS quickly responded to the scene and transported the victim to Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.
