A nine-year-old girl was killed yesterday in Wirt County when a recreational vehicle she was riding plunged into the Little Kanawha River.
Ashley Johnston, 9, of Belpre, was pronounced dead at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital about four hours after she accidentally drove a go-cart into the river near Elizabeth.
The youth's family was visiting friends on a farm beside the Little Kanawha River when she took a ride on the go-cart. Resuscitation efforts failed.
A Pleasants County man died from an ATV accident yesterday.
Eric Groves, 36, was pronounced dead of injuries at his home at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
The ATV appeared to have struck an embankment and Groves was ejected. Groves reportedly called his wife to bring him home, after which he experienced severe problems.
He reportedly experienced severe head and chest trauma.
