Woodrow H. Owens, 81, of Ravenswood went home to be his Lord on May 20, 2005, at Ravenswood Village Center.
He was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Grantsville, Calhoun County, W.Va., a son of Joshua S. and Nellie G. Wright Owens. Jackson County had been Woodrow's home for 48 years. He was a long-term member of the Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood. He was employed by Kaiser Aluminum and retired after 26 years of service. He was an accomplished gunsmith and knife repairman. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Owens of Ravenswood; two sons, Herbert Wright and wife, Joyce, of Washington, W.Va., and James Owens and wife, Sharon, of Millwood, W.Va.; three daughters, Sonja Ritter of Mobile, Ala., Sandra Price and husband, Steve, of Wilmington, N.C., and Patricia Nesselroad and husband, Lyle, of Sherman, W.Va.; five brothers and their families, Joshua Owens of Ravenswood, George Owens and wife, Faye, of Sunbury, Ohio, Charles Owens and wife, Donna, and Ronald Owens and wife, Ellen, all of Parkersburg, and Dennis Cain of Grantsville; and five sisters, Jean Godfrey and husband, Kenneth, Greta Richards and husband, Dwayne, and Joyce Roberts and husband, Forrest, all of Grantsville, Darlene Roberts and husband, Larry, of Parkersburg and Carolyn Preston and husband, Gary, of Belpre. He left behind a loving family of 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood, with the Revs. Steve Raines and Richard Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends may visit from 5-9 p.m. Sunday at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood.
