Wilbert S. "Web" Freed, 89, of 25th Street, Parkersburg, died May 1, 2005, at his residence.
He was born at Freed, Calhoun County, W.Va., a son of the late James Franklin and Hattie D. Goodnight Freed. Mr. Freed was educated in Wood County schools and was a 1935 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He participated in football, basketball and track, and played in the North-South game in 1935. Mr. Freed was a graduate of Mountain State Business College. He served in the U. S. Army in World War II in the European Operation in Africa and Italy. He was a life member of BPO Elks, American Legion and the DAV. He retired from Sears and Roebuck Co. in 1973.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Alan R. and Jacquelyn Freed; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie B. and Terry Caplinger; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of Parkersburg.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Elizabeth Swain Freed in 1966; his second wife, Blanche E. Beadle Moore Freed in 1994; two sisters, Lelia Fox and Opal Parks; and brother, Len Freed.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery with military services by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
