Sunday, April 24th dawned cold, windy, and snowy, so all right thinking mountain bikers headed for Big Bear Lake, WV to race the 3rd round of the WV Mountain Bike Association Spring Point Series

Bob Vernon, Race Director, did bow to nature, though, by shortening the race - Expert classes rode only 14 miles, the Sport and Beginner classes rode an 8 mile trail, and the finish line was moved to the inside of the Community Building - getting 108 very wet, slushy, muddy, and cold riders out of the weather with all possible speed.

Expert rider Gerry Pflug was the "Man of the Day", racing in 2 classes - Vet Expert 35+ and Pro/Expert Open - finishing 1st in both classes in 1 hour and 14 minutes.

Local racer Cai Clothier, a 7th grade student at the Calhoun Middle School, had a particularly nasty day at the race, having mechanical problems about a mile after the race start. Not being one to quit, Cai walked and ran his bike through the elements for about 7 miles, finishing 4th in his Junior Sport 14 and Under Class.

The top three in each class were: Men's Pro/Expert Open - Gerry Pflug, TJ Platt, and Brian Matter; Women's Pro/Expert Open - Cassie Smith; Men's Expert Vet 35+ - Gerry Pflug, Justin Pokrivka, and Steve Thaxton; Men's Expert Master 45+ - Charlie Patterson, Matt Ross; Single Speed Open - Brad Kriley, Rob Rohel, and Jason Cyr; Men's Sport 19-34 - Kevin Dolinar, Jamie Welch, and Kevin Leaman; Men's Sport Vet 35+ - Dave Koreski, Scott Frame, and Brian Schmidt; Men's Sport Master 45+ - Bruce Williams, Pete Arner, and Ed Painter; Men's HS 15-18 - Derrick Wolfe, JJ Ford, and Chris Finch; Men's Jr. 14 & under - Corey Chambers, Eddie Grystar, and Eric Estep; Women's Sport 19-34 - Charlene Vrabel, Lisa Stover, and Lori Ware; Women's Sport Vet 35+ - Ruth Cunningham, Julie Schozley, and Mary Phillips; Clydesdale 200 lb+ - Steve Ware, Jeff Simcoe, and Tony Bowie; Men's Beginner - Garrett Stout, Mike Miller, and Jeremy Sieck; Women's Beginner - Megan Durst; No Womens High School riders - No Men's Jr. Expert Riders.
