Emergency workers carry injured woman to ambulance ...
... from her auto that crashed against a tree ...
... after traveling a distance from the highway
An Annamoriah woman was seriously injured Friday evening after her Dodge Intrepid went out of control on State Rt. 5 at Creston Flats, leaving the highway and crashing into the woods.
Melissa "Missy" Boggs Whipkey is in ICU at Charleston Area Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries, where she was taken by a HealthNet chopper.
The hospital said she is still being evaluted Saturday morning.
The "flats" are located between the Wirt County line and Big Bend.
The injured woman was traveling west on Rt. 5 when her vehicle appeared to lose control, skidding down the highway, crossing a ditch and traveling through a meadow, then crashing into a tree.
The vehicle traveled a few hundred feet before impact.
Gary Buchanan of Creston, a passerby, spotted the skid marks and saw the top of the vehicle a considerable distance from the highway.
Sources at the scene were unclear how long the woman had been in the vehicle before she was discovered.
Calhoun EMS dispatched two ambulances to the scene, along with the Grantsville VFD.
Emergency workers provided trauma treatment en route to the Army Reserve Center at Big Bend, from where she was life-flighted to Charleston.
Sheriff Carl Ballengee is investigating.
Boggs was reported to be the daughter of Jack and Connie Boggs of the Creston area.
