The West Virginia Education Association awarded eleven foundation grants in December to West Virginia schools.
Calhoun Middle-High School has received a $730 grant from the WV Education Association. The grant, written by Mrs. Faye Chambers, targets character development with a focus on theatre for middle and high school students, performed by high school theatre students.
Three short plays on character development have been presented to middle school students dealing with drugs, smoking, and self esteem.
The series will culminate with a production of "Goldilocks on Trial." The final production will also be presented to the public in an evening performance.
Mrs. Chambers has used the money to purchase all the materials for the four productions which included scripts, royalties, costumes, masks, wigs, props, paint, poster board, etc.
The most recent play to be performed was entitled "Someone Special" and dealt with self-esteem. The theatre class used the blacklights in this performance.
