TEEN KILLS BROTHER - A 16-year-old Raleigh County boy accidentally shot and killed his eleven-year-old brother while they were playing with guns.

The shooting occurred as the boys were playing while their parents were out shopping.

Raleigh County Sheriff's Deputy W. R. Killen says the eleven-year-old loaded a 20-gauge shotgun and gave it to his older brother to unload. As the older boy tried to break it down, it discharged and shot the eleven-year-old in the chest.

The deputy said the 16-year-old will not be charged.

MAN SHOOTS AT STATE POLICE - A McDowell County man is facing charges for allegedly shooting at two State Police officers who were trying to arrest him.

The alleged shootout occurred following a domestic violence call in Powhatan.

Twenty-five-year-old Jonathan Joseph Ferrell of Eckman allegedly fired about nine shots at the officers. One of the troopers, in turn, reportedly fired twice toward Ferrell, who then surrendered.

No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire.

Ferrell is charged with two counts each of attempted murder, wanton endangerment, brandishing a deadly weapon and obstructing an officer. He also faces one count each of child neglect causing the risk of injury, possession of a controlled substance and domestic assault.

MAN PLEADS GUILTY ON WEAPONS CHARGE - A Kanawha County man who garnered media attention after being questioned in the 2003 sniper-style shootings has pleaded guilty to two federal weapons charges.

Brian Caldwell, 47, of Winifrede entered a plea to charges of possession of a firearm after being judged mentally defective and falsifying a federal form.

Caldwell purchased a semi-automatic weapon after lying on the form.

He was arrested for an unrelated incident on Cabin Creek, where he shot at a woman repeatedly.

He faces up to 15 years in prison and a $500,000 fine when sentenced in June.
