Action taken by Calhoun Commission during Monday's meeting:
- Reviewed cash flow problem for county, still critical.
- Reviewed the costs of health insurance for county employees, possibly requiring partial payment of premiums by employees.
- Passed a motion recommending the County Building Commission sell the Minnora School property to the Calhoun County Committee on Aging for $50,000. If unacceptable, secondary recommendation to put property on auction block with minimum bid of $50,000, or possible third option regarding transfer of property to Minnora Community Center, eliminating county's liability.
- Acknowledged Courthouse Improvement Grant of $40,000 for heating/air improvements, but will require a 20% match.
- Approved Budget Digest Grant of $17,000 for computers and copiers.
- Commission will contact LEPC members to attend meeting a Thursday, critical to area fire departments and emergency services to receive grant money.
- Reviewed status of walking trail grant at Wayne Underwood Field.
- Appointed Hays Haymaker to County Park Board and Dave Johnson to be 911 Coordinator.
- Approved the naming of access road at Calhoun Middle-High School to Alan B. Mollahan Drive.
- Discussion regarding state's election to consolidate debt for state pension programs, scheduled for June 25, adopting emergency medical absentee policy and the way in which poll workers-election board will be selected for special election.
- Approved the use of the county park for a special fund-raiser by the Grantsville VFD and EMS on July 21-23.
- Considered request to review county EMS, Regional Office of Emergency Services.
- Changed extended courthouse hours which have been held one day a month: 4-6 p.m. on first Monday. Circuit Clerk Shelia Garretson said there has been "almost zero" use of the hours, but said she and other officials would meet with residents who have special needs by appointment.
- Diane Ludwig gave a report on the LK Development Corporation.
- Commission approved minutes for meetings held Feb. 1, 4, 7, 10, 12, 14, 15, 18, 24 and 28.
- Reviewed Budget Control Report.
- A budget session was conducted following the commission meeting.
- Commissioners Sampson and Weaver present. Commissioner Larry McCallister was in Charleston working on solutions to get relief from regional jail costs.
