Calhoun had one champion and four other place winners as it took third place
in the Class AA/A state wrestling tournament Saturday in Huntington.
Paul Goodrich (left) finished the season with a perfect 41-0 record.
The junior posted a
3-2 decision over David Foltz in the championship match.
Overall Calhoun had 115 points finishing third behind Oak Glen with 248 and
Shady Spring with 156.
Cameron was fourth with 105 points followed by St.
Marys with 91.5. Point Pleasant, Independence, Greenbrier West, Berkeley
Springs and Ravenswood round out the top 10. Other area teams included Clay
(17), Braxton (18) and Roane (24).
Calhoun had three wrestlers going for state titles.
At 135 Ravenswood's Judd Billings took a 3-1 victory over Andrew Cummings
while at 152 Cameron's Jeff Cumpston beat Justin Price, 8-0.
Calhoun also had a third place finish by Justin Ramsey at 125. Ramsey beat
Wes Hanson of Herbert Hoover 5-2 in the consolation finals.
The Red Devils also had a fifth-place finish by Jaron Sampson at 130.
Sampson scored a 7-2 victory over Dirk Baker of Oak Glen in the match.
