Calhoun County holds a 17-point lead over Herbert Hoover heading into today'
s action at the Class AA/A Region IV Wrestling Tournament at Roane County
High School.
The Red Devils lead with 155 points. Herbert Hoover is second with 138
followed by Point Pleasant at 137 and Clay with 113. No others among the
13-team field have 100 points.
The Red Devils have six heading into the championship round today including
Justin Ramsey (125), Jaron Price (130), Andrew Cummings (135), Jeff Goodrich
(140), Justin Price (152) and Paul Goodrich 171.
According to Calhoun Coach Mike Stump all the Red Devils except two still
have a chance to advance to the state tournament by placing in the top four
at the regional tournament.
Calhoun had one wrestler - top-seeded Eddie Burrows at 112 - fail to make
weight. Stump said Burrows probably would have won the regional title. His
forfeiture probably caused the Red Devils' lead to be a lot closer than what
it normally would have been.
Herbert Hoover, the Red Devils' closest competitor, has four in the
championship round while Point Pleasant has three.
Wrestling is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. today.
