(06/12/2001)
The Fifth Annual Appalachian Bike Classic and Festival promises excitement, competition and thrills, besides lots of family fun, entertainment and special activities on the side. The Classic is this weekend, June 16th and 17th at Calhoun County Park. "This years event promises to be the best yet," according to Donnie Price, including a Saturday evening music festival featuring Johnny Staats and the Delivery Boys, among many other performers at a free show.

"The Classic is a real family affair, from the youngest to the oldest. There is a spot for everyone," said Price. There is plenty of free parking sites to catch the race action. "You can bring your own lawn chair for the great entertainment," he said. The Classic is a fund raiser for the Calhoun Park.

Price said "People in the area don't known what they are missing." He is hopeful Calhoun and regional county residents will stop by for the weekend festival and race.

The 7.2 mile multi-lap bike race will be run on Sunday. Bikers will be competing for a $1500 cash purse in the expert/pro class, although there are over $10,000 in cash, prizes and perks.
