SCHOOL COMPUTERS LACKED PROPER SECURITY - Coordinator Resigns

(02/11/2005)
A Calhoun School's employee has reportedly resigned after it was discovered that a security system on some of the computers at Calhoun Middle High School was not properly maintained.

According to School Superintendent Ron Blankenship, the failure to maintain the security system would have allowed students to access inappropriate material.

Blankenship indicated he felt it was a failure of the assigned person to perform their job.

Officials confirmed that Computer Technology Coordinator Chad Bartlett has resigned, although Blankenship did not link the problem with Bartlett's name.

Blankenship said that a number of security systems are maintained by the state and county school systems to prevent students from surfing the net and accessing inappropriate material.

"We have always taken this very seriously, and believe the problem has been resolved," he said.
