No changes have been announced since State Police informed Calhoun Control last
week they will not be taking after hours calls from their 911 center. Sheriff Allen
Parsons learned about the policy change from the control center.
A directive to Calhoun Control-911 from the agency advised "We cannot take night
calls from Calhoun Control. Please do not call my officers direct or South Charleston
for night calls. Each independent department should be answering their own after
hours calls." The order was issued by Sgt. John Bonazzo of the Grantsville
Detachment.
Bonazzo says the action has been taken because of manpower shortages and
scheduling problems.
Sheriff Allen Parsons has advised Calhoun Control to call his department after
midnight.
Sgt. Bonazzo said "We will still answer after hours calls phoned into the State Police,"
apparently referring to calls placed directly to his agency. The West Virginia State
Police number in Grantsville is 354-6334, which is call forwarded to Spencer or South
Charleston when the barracks is not attended.
He has declined to offer further clarification. The text of the directive is in a Herald
story on May 11th.
