The Calhoun Middle School girls dropped a pair of games to Walton Thursday
night.
The Calhoun B team lost 18-16 despite a furious fourth-quarter rally that
cut a 10-point deficit to two.
Meanwhile the A Red Devils A team hit a fourth quarter brick wall en route
to a 16-8 loss to the Tigers.
In the A game the Red Devils jumped out to a big early lead then watched
the
game slip away especially in the fourth quarter when Walton outscored them
9-1. The Red Devils seemed to run out of gas at the end, which may have
been
the result of playing four games in four days this week.
Calhoun jumped ahead 7-2 in the first quarter then did not score again
until
the final minutes of the game as Walton rallied to tie things at the end
of
three and then pull away in the final period.
Kayla Roberts led Calhoun with five while Emily Brady added two and
Kristin
Ballengee one.
In the B game Calhoun led early then fell behind by 10 before the late
rally
that almost pulled things out.
Calhoun took a 6-2 lead after one period and was on top 6-5 at halftime.
But
a 12-0 third period, which was fueled by Courtney Carr who got eight of
her
game high 12 points in the quarter, gave the Tigers a 16-6 lead.
In the final period Calhoun rallied to make it close and could have tied
the
game or taken the lead on numerous occasions but were unable to convert at
the free throw line hitting only one of 12 chances.
Amara Yoak led the way for Calhoun with five while Brooke Talley added
four.
Danielle Little scored three and Bridgette Carter and Heaven Cain two
each.
Calhoun returns to action next Wednesday night with a home game against
Ritchie Middle School.
