(01/27/2005)
Roane and Clay Counties are on a list for new rules regarding electrical inspections.

Appalachian Power customers in 13 West Virginia counties who install new or upgrade existing electrical wiring will have to pass inspection before their power will be turned on.

The pilot program will begin February First in Boone, Cabell, Clay, Fayette, Greenbrier, Jackson, Kanawha, Mason, Monroe, Nicholas, Putnam, Roane and Summers counties.

American Electric Power is beginning the inspection program to improve safety.

Customers will have to call the company to tell them their home is ready for the inspection.

The company then will give them a list of contractors in the area who have agreed to participate in the inspections and are qualified for the work.

The contractors will charge $85 for the inspection, which must be completed in 48 hours.
