During what was a continued meeting, the Calhoun Commission acted on several items yesterday related to cut-backs and balancing the budget, including going into executive session to discuss personnel issues.
The commission announced one lay-off, but indicated more will follow.
Also cut was all health insurance to all elected officials.
The commission is expected to deal with other cut-backs during the February meeting to meet critical shortfalls.
The Gilmer County PSD delivered a letter to the commission requesting permission to extend public water to the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center near the county line. The commission will act on the matter during the next meeting.
John and Neil Stump submitted a letter of resignation as county coroners.
Board of Health member Bill Shock spoke to the commission regarding his concerns about proposed smoking regulations violating private business rights, stating he would like to see the issue placed on the ballot.
He also expressed concern regarding the small amount of funding the commission gives the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department.
A final name change was approved for a rural road off Rt. 16 at Millstone, as the request of Betty Price. The commission approved the change to "Pine Road."
The commission will be spending February serving as a Board of Equalization and Review. |
