The Little Kanawha Longbeards, a local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) returned Saturday night from the Annual State Awards Banquet with four awards. Of the 28 NWTF Chapters in WV our local chapter placed 1st with 22 sponsor memberships. Other awards were received for hosting a J.A.K.E.S. Event and a high quality banquet.
Recognition for other community projects performed by our local chapter in Calhoun and Gilmer Counties was given. One hundred turkey breasts were distributed through the "Turkey Hunters Care" program. One ton of winter wheat seed was provided to landowners for wild life food plots. Also, 50 crabapple trees were set out through the "Johnny Appleseed" habitat enhancement program.
The local NWTF, Hunters Heritage Banquet will be held at the Gilmer County Recreation Center on March 31, 2005. We hope to see you there.
