Calhoun rebounded from its worst loss in several season - 51-27 to Roane
County last Thursday - to beat Wahama 52-42.
The game was not as close as the final score would indicate as the Red
Devils jumped out front early and never were in any danger after that.
Calhoun went on top 10-2 in the first period as Wahama had trouble getting
untracked.
The Red Devils turned it up a notch in the second period and rolled out to a
24-12 lead.
Calhoun pushed it out to 20 points - 41-21 - after three quarters and coach
Tim Moore substituted freely after that allowing the White Falcons to nibble
away at the margin.
Jake Perkins led the Red Devils with 21 points and the acrobatic senior got
strong support from guard Tommy Gerwig with 12. Gerwig went into the game
with a scoring average around two points after averaging about 28 points a
game last year playing junior varsity ball. His shooting touch helped keep
the Wahama defense honest.
Tristan Harris added nine for the 3-5 Red Devils while Mike Batten had six
and Tyler Shartiger three.
Calhoun will attempt to continue its rebound on the road at Gilmer County
Thursday.
Calhoun also won the junior varsity game over Wahama by a 39-33 count.
Andrew Norman led the reserves with nine. Jeff Keesler added eight and Matt
Houchin seven.
