The Ohio Valley is cleaning up after the second flood in four months. Hardest hit was downtown Marietta, with much of Parkersburg protected by a flood wall.

One of six loaded coal barges that had become trapped against the Belleville Locks and Dam in southern Wood County has been removed. Two others have reportedly sunk to the bottom of the Ohio River.

The barges were among nine that broke loose from a tug last Thursday.

The US Army Corps of Engineers is worried that a 33-mile stretch of the Ohio River between Belleville and the Willow Island Locks And Dam north of Parkersburg could become too shallow for river traffic if the remaining barges are not freed from the dam's gates.
