Federal regulators have concurred with state officials that the Little Kanawha River is polluted.
The state has 878 pollution-impaired waterways covering more than six-thousand miles of streams.
The DEP's 2004 impaired stream list includes most of West Virginia's major rivers, including the Guyandotte, the Kanawha and its major tributaries, the Monongahela and its major tributaries, the Little Kanawha, the Ohio, several tributaries of the Potomac and the Tug Fork.
The eating of fish in these streams are restricted to certain minimum amounts to project public health.
