Carl R. James, 81 - Glenville

Clark R. James, 81, of Glenville, West Virginia, passed away December 22, 2004 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown from injuries received in an auto accident at Weston.

Born February 14, 1923 on Leatherbark near Cedarville, Gilmer County, he was the son of the late William W. and Alma Reed James.

Mr. James was a longtime prominent Gilmer County public servant having served three terms as Gilmer County Sheriff and was a Gilmer County Commissioner. He was a former Gilmer County Field Deputy Assessor and was a Glenville Chief of Police in the 50's and 60's. He was a former manager of the Spencer Livestock Exchange. He was a member of the Lower Steer Run Baptist Church, Glenville Lions Club, West Virginia Sheriff's Association and the Gilmer County Coon Hunters Association. He was an avid hunter and was the owner of many champion coon dogs. He was a former member of the Normantown IOOF Lodge and was a well known cattleman and farmer. Clark gave generously of his time to civic and charitable events.

Surviving are his wife, Helen R. James and a son, Gregory C. James of Glenville; 2 brothers, William T. James of Ravenswood and Samuel A. James of Parkersburg.

He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Boyd, Parker, Justus, Charles, David, and John James; sisters, Mildred White, Nora Smith and Mary Alltop.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 7 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Interment will be in the Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
