It was 10-42 for Sheriff Allen D. Parsons as the new year came in - ending his "tour of duty." Parsons is retiring after serving four terms - 16 years - as Sheriff of Calhoun County, plus other years he has been in law enforcement.
Calhoun Control announced on the county's radio frequencies "This is a farewell call for the Honorable Allen D. Parsons, who is officially off duty at 2400 hours this night."
"All county emergency service personnel would like to take this opportunity to say it has been a privilege working with you all these years.
Parsons has devoted thousands of hours beyond a 40-hour week in service to the county.
"It has been a privilege, for which I am grateful," he said. "It has often been long days and nights."
Parsons was presented with a going-away gift, a revolver, at a surprise get-together at High Rise Pizza last night.
