Donald Darius Hardway, 82, of Nicut, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2004.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He served his beloved country as a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired Calhoun County School bus driver and a devoted farmer. He was a long-time member of the Walnut Church.
Surviving are his loving wife, Alma Madeline Jarvis Deweese Hardway; three sons, Denzil Hardway and his wife, Ruby, of Naples, Fla., Jack Hardway of Arnoldsburg, W.Va., and Leonard Hardway and his wife, Rotha, of Palestine, W.Va..
Two daughters, Norma Drake of Big Bend, W.Va., and Janice Blake and her husband, J.R., of Mount Zion, W.Va.; three stepsons, Roger Deweese and his wife, Diana, of Witcher Creek, W.Va., Forrest Deweese and his wife, June, and David Deweese and his wife, Joyce, of Chelyan, W.Va.; three stepdaughters, Rondella Bradley and her husband, Billy, of South Carolina, Cindy Bennett and her husband, Aaron, of Chloe, W.Va., and Beverly Hughes and her husband, Wayne, of Marmet, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 14 step grandchildren; and 15 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Yost Hardway; his parents, Lee and Sabina Rhodes Hardway; three sisters, Ethel Morris, Etta Thomas and Minnie Vaughn Stemple; and a grandson, Jack "Punkin" Hardway.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg. Interment will be in the Minnora Cemetery at Minnora. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
