"Shop With A Cop" to take place at Wal-Mart in south Parkersburg on Sunday, December 12, 2004 at 5:00 p.m.
The Fraternal Order of Police, Blennerhassett Lodge #79 has teamed up with Wal-Mart for what looks to be a very successful holiday season benefit. The F.O.P. and Wal-Mart have combined to give an estimated fifty (50) children one hundred dollars each to shop for their families and/or themselves. Police officers from several Wood County law enforcement agencies and Wal-Mart volunteers will escort these children around the store as they select their items.
Wal-Mart will have extra staff on duty. They will make name badges for each of the children and provide snacks and drinks. Two of the children will win a new bicycle and many others will win a stocking full of prizes. The Board of Education was instrumental in identifying some children who could benefit from this program.
The Fraternal Order of Police is a non-profit organization that raises money throughout the year by various fund raising events. Golf tournaments, telemarketing, basket bingo, and a fall dance helps raise money for the Needy Food Project, college scholarships, Shop With A Cop, and more. The spring telemarketing was very successful and is providing the funds for Shop With A Cop this year. We are very thankful to everyone that gave money during that campaign allowing us to hold our first Shop With A Cop.
The Fraternal Order of Police is also preparing to provide selected families with food for the holidays with the Needy Food Project spending $1000.
