Energy Express will run from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and Summer Academy from 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Bus transportation will be provided for both full day and half-day activities.
Summer Academy "A Micro Summer"
The program:
The program will have both academic and recreational components (we hope students want to come!). The academic portion will focus on improving math, technology and reading skills. The recreational portion will include games, summer sports and fun times with friends. Students will also go on at least two fieldtrips, one planned for a science/technology center (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio and another to the farmers market in Charleston.
Here are just some of the activities students will do as they "cycle" through the various centers:
? Cocoa Café - In a "coffee house" setting, students will read and discuss stories in literature circles, conduct reader's theater performances, do choral reading and other literature based activities.
? Math - Students will perform various record keeping, banking, graphing and other relevant activities to increase math skills.
? Technology - Students will "surf" the net, and work on numerous computer programs designed to increase a number of academic skills (reading, math, comprehension, etc.).
? Crafts - Students will do various arts and craft projects and work in a greenhouse.
Enrollment forms for both Energy Express and the Summer Academy are being distributed this week. Sign up today!
