Lawrence "Hale" Goodnight, 97, formerly of Brohard, West Virginia, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.
Hale was born September 3, 1907 in Calhoun County, a son of the late Franklin and Ocie Wilt Goodnight. He worked in the timber and oil fields for sixty years, and retired from Cain Oil and Gas Company in 1980.
He is survived by five children, Arthur Goodnight of Ravenna, Ohio, Mavarine Butler of Bowie, Maryland, Ronzel Goodnight of McFarlan, Delores (and Donald) Dye of Smithville, and Delmas Goodnight of Brohard; one son in law, Robert Bush of Spencer. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren; three sisters, Blanche Bell of Brohard, Wanoka "Tommie" Morehead of Big Bend and Helen Payne of Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dessie Richards Goodnight, a daughter, Freda Bush, one daughter in law, two sons in law, one granddaughter, Tammy Dye Hatfield, five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 19 at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Rev. Carroll McCauley will officiate. Interment will be in the Goodnight Cemetery, Big Bend.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. |
