Calhoun educator and president of the Calhoun Historical Society Robert Bonar (pictured left) was the speaker at last night's Calhoun CEO Achievement Night held at the Rush Run Baptist Church.

The annual event recognized the work of the members of Calhoun's CEO clubs, Arnoldsburg, Pleasant Hill and Rush Run.

Special recognition was given to Calhoun Belles over the years.

The organization has a 77 year history going back to 1927, when the first Farm Women's Club was started.

By 1932 there were clubs at Cabot Station, Bull River, Phillips Run, Mt. Zion, Russett, Big Root and Hattie.

In 1932 the clubs constructed the Calhoun Cabin at Jackson's Mill 4-H Camp. Later new clubs were started at Upper Pine, White Pine, Pleasant Hill and Rush Run.

During World War II the clubs made 429 mattresses for the war effort, with a total of 12 clubs and 227 members.

Clubs were started at Apple Farm, Nobe and Henrietta.
