President Bush repeated his West Virginia victory last night with about 56%, Kerry with about 44%.
Bush will get the state's five electoral votes.
Despite the fact that the state is widely registered Democratic, voters continue a trend to vote toward Republican candidates.
Many voters remain registered as Democrats to participate in local political races, but the state, like most of the south leans toward conservative, right-wing candidates.
State Republican chairman Kris Warner said voters liked Bush after sizing him up.
Warner says West Virginians are good judges of character, and they decided Bush could be trusted.
State Democratic Chairman Nick Casey says Bush won by tapping into personal beliefs and fears on everything from religion and guns to gays.
He said Bush focused on things that divide Americans rather than the things that would unite them.
