One of the town's most formidable structures, the former jail building, will be used for town hall offices
The Grantsville Town Council accepted the offer of the Calhoun Commission last night to move their offices into the county's old jail building.
Mayor Neil Blankenship (pictured left) said the council voted unanimously to move ahead.
"We are grateful for the cooperation that has been shown here," he said. "It certainly will help the town and we will try and help the county," he said.
The town hall buildings have been declared unsafe by an engineering firm, which has recommended the buildings be abandoned for safety's sake.
Blankenship said yesterday Worker's Compensation will meeting with the town Wednesday, apparently to express concern for the safety of town employees.
"We now have a decision to do something about the problem," he said. "There has been excellent cooperation." |
