OIL HITS $55 A BARREL

(10/23/2004)
Oil hit a record $55 a barrel on Friday, causing worried investors to send stocks tumbling.

Crude prices sent chills through the markets, with home heating oil being in demand and gasoline prices expected to increase.

Gasoline is standing at 2.11 cents a gallon for low-test in Calhoun.

The high price of gasoline has caused grumbling among consumers, but it has not become a heated consumer or political issue.
