Kelley Allen is new Western Auto owner
Radio Shack is a big part of Grantsville store ...
... with most major appliances
Melinda Hicks says there are hundreds of
electronic items ...
... plus batteries, batteries, batteries
Just about every small town in the eastern US had a
Western Auto store during the last century, bringing
everything to rural communities - tires, appliances,
auto parts, ammo, bikes, hardware, radios and
TVs.
Each dealer owned their own store and set their own
prices.
Grantsville's Western Auto has graced the
community for many years, owned by Mr. and Mrs.
Phillip Gerwig.
It has now been sold to 15-year-employee Kelly
Allen.
The local store has obtained a franchise for Radio
Shack and is a provider of electronic equipment and
supplies to the county.
Allen said she went to work for the Gerwig's as a
sales clerk, never expecting to stay with the
establishment, let alone own it.
"The Gerwig's have been great to work with over the
years," she said. "It couldn't have been better."
"Now is the challenge to continue to upgrade the
store and provide products to the community," said
Allen. "I am fortunate to have Melinda Hicks working
with me."
Allen says she hopes to continue serving the
community for years to come.
