Three jumpers drift down to landing site
The 25th anniversary of Bridge Day went on with few hitches. There
were a few broken ankles and scrapes when the jumpers landed 876
feet below along the New River.
The world's largest extreme sports event had some disruptions by
freezing rain, sleet and wind.
Hardy spectators endured the weather. They came and went more
rapidly, not hanging around quite as long.
Hundreds of BASE jumpers took the thrill seeking leap from the world's
second longest single arch bridge. Over 100,000 spectators gasped and
awed when jumpers did the free-fall for a few seconds before their
chutes opened.
