OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH - Friday Is National Mammography Day At MHHCC

(10/14/2004)
In 2004 the American Cancer Society estimates that 1,620 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed among women in West Virginia.

Of these, 300 mothers, daughters, sisters and wives will die.

This is why every year the month of October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This month is set aside to honor the women who have battled this dreadful disease and to promote awareness and education.

On Friday, October 15, 2004 in recognition of National Mammography Day, MHHCC will be presenting Breast Health Awareness Day.

Throughout the day any woman who visits Clinic C will be given a free bag of information including well women calendars, emery boards and packets of Forget-me-nots.

Also, at 10:00 and 11:00, Barb McKown will be presenting 30-minute presentations on Breast Health Awareness, provided by the American Cancer Society.

Women who attend these sessions will be eligible for the door prize drawings at noon.

Though there continues to be major advancements in prevention and treatment, Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center would like to encourage women of all ages to get screened if they have not done so in the past year.

Women over age fifty should get a mammogram at least once a year.

Even if you do not have an appointment on Friday, October 15, feel free to stop by and pick up your free packet of information.

If you would like more information concerning women's health screening, please contact Barb McKown or Rita Laughlin at 354-9244. Remember, the Best Protection is Early Detection!
