EMS personnel carry injured male youth accident victim to HealthNet
chopper at Upper West Fork Park
SATURDAY 4 PM - A Five Forks-Broomstick woman, age 19, has died from injuries received during an ATV "poker run" Saturday afternoon on Beech Road.
Her body has been taken to Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville, following notification of Calhoun coroner Neil Stump.
Her name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
Calhoun EMS personnel worked desperately for an extended period of time to save the woman's life following a call for help at 12:15 p.m.
A male participating in the ATV fund-raiser for Travis Godfrey reportedly suffered a broken leg in the same incident and was life-flighted by a HealthNet chopper to Charleston Area Medical Center from the Upper West Fork Park.
The OctoberFest events at the Upper West Fork Park were put on hold most of the afternoon because of the tragedy.
About fifty participants entered the fund-raiser for Godfrey's "Riding to Fight Leukemia." Godfrey is a student at Calhoun Middle School, who was recently diagnosed with the disease.
"The accident happened on the other side of the hill above Beech Road, about halfway down the hill," according to Upper West Fork Fire Chief Randy Perkins. Emergency workers had to carry the victims to a UWVFD truck at the top of the hill, he said.
Arnoldsburg and Upper West Fork Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with two ambulances from Calhoun EMS. |
